Dragon Mart invites visitors to celebrate the Year of the Dragon with interactive activities and traditional performances in store for all ages

Dragon Mart, one of the world’s largest trading hubs, invites visitors to take part in Chinese New Year celebrations from 2 to 11 February.

In perfect harmony with the spirit of Dragon Mart, this year’s celebrations representing the Year of the Dragon will present visitors with a variety of entertainment options, including the Big Dragon Dance, Lion Dance, Dragon Kung Fu Dance and more.

The festivities will also bring visitors a hands-on lantern making experience, promising a vibrant atmosphere and cherished new memories that are sure to set the tone for a prosperous new year ahead.

 

Activities

Dragon Head Lantern Making Workshop

An exciting and immersive dragon head lantern making workshop offers visitors a hands-on experience that combines traditional craftsmanship with the spirit of festivity. This workshop will blend age-old lantern crafting techniques with contemporary design, allowing participants to infuse their customised creations with a modern touch. Embrace the spirit of the Lunar New Year by participating in this interactive activity.

Entertainment

Big Dragon Dance

Witness the mesmerizing Big Dragon Dance, a symbolic performance believed to drive away evil spirits and bring good luck to the community. Watch on as skilled performers, adorned in vibrant traditional attire and accompanied by the sounds of thunderous drums, breathe life into an enormous mythical dragon spanning a total of 42 metres with a head measuring two metres in width.

Lion Dance

The Lion Dance, one of the most prominent and popular traditions performed on Chinese New Year, will also take place at Dragon Mart this year.  Symbolizing power, superiority and wisdom, this dance is believed to bring good fortune and drive out evil. Performed to a spirited drum beat, the Lion Dance is accompanied by drummers who play to keep the lion in movement as two dancers manipulate the head and the rear of the costume. Be a part of this auspicious performance, designed to pave the way for prosperity in the new year.

Dragon Kung Fu Dance

Performed by skilled acrobats and trained Kung Fu professionals, the Dragon Kung Fu Dance is a thrilling showcase of martial discipline and cultural heritage, bringing strength and resilience to the forefront of the celebration. The dynamic and winding movements of a dragon come to life through a professionally choreographed performance, accompanied by traditional Chinese music.

Peking Opera Show

Peking Opera Show is a historic form of Chinese theatrical art that gracefully blends acting, singing and acrobatics. This artform narrates tales of society, daily life, love and history with the aim of inspiring as it entertains, setting the pace of the show. Experience the allure of Chinese theatrical performances, where every movement on stage is a dance, music is a melody and every tale woven is an invitation into Chinese culture.

Umbrella Dance

A popular folk dance from the Han Dynasty, the Umbrella Dance originates from a district in China known for making umbrellas. Performed with silk umbrellas, said to represent honour and wealth, Dragon Mart invites visitors to enjoy this heritage-rich performance live multiple times throughout the week.
